Water Footprint Calculation

Water is a critical resource for businesses, communities, and ecosystems. Companies need to think about how they use water and how it affects the whole value chain because water is becoming scarcer, climate risks are rising, and rules are getting stricter. Water Footprint Calculation is a scientific way to figure out how much freshwater is used directly and indirectly, such as through consumption, pollution, and supply chain dependencies. This helps organisations reduce risks and improve their sustainability performance.
At Greenex Environmental, we provide ISO 14046- and Water Footprint Network (WFN)-aligned services to help manufacturers, exporters, and global suppliers assess and reduce their water footprint. Our solutions turn complicated water data into plans that can be used to improve resilience, follow the rules, and grow your business over time.

Goal & Scope Definition
At Greenex, we help clients align these definitions with broader business objectives, regulatory requirements, and communication goals, ensuring that the assessment delivers actionable value.

Life Cycle Inventory (LCI)
The LCI phase focuses on detailed data collection of inputs and outputs across the lifecycle, such as raw materials, energy use, emissions, water consumption, and waste.

Life Cycle Impact Assessment
In this step, the collected data is translated into measurable environmental impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions, resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication, and water scarcity.

Interpretation & Reporting
At Greenex, we go beyond reporting our team translates technical findings into actionable strategies for management, marketing, and compliance teams.
A greener world begins with one bold decision yours.

Why it Matters
Follow global environmental rules and disclosure requirements to avoid fines and stay on the right side of the law.
Find and fix problems with how your business uses water to save money and increase productivity.
Take steps to manage the risks to your business and supply chain that come from more droughts and less water.
Give scientifically sound data for sustainability reporting to build trust with stakeholders and protect your brand.
Understanding and managing your water footprint is not just an environmental responsibility — it is a business imperative.
The Four Phases of Lifecycle Assessment

Blue Water Footprint
The Blue Water Footprint tells you how much surface and groundwater is used during production, like for irrigation, cooling, or adding to products. It shows how much businesses depend on freshwater resources, especially in areas where water is hard to come by. Recycling, closed-loop systems, and better irrigation can all help lower risks, cut costs, and reduce competition with local communities by using less blue water.

Green Water Footprint
The Green Water Footprint is the amount of rainwater that is stored in the soil and taken up by plants or crops as they grow. This part is very important for agriculture, textiles, and food supply chains, where most of the farming is done with rainwater. Companies can find sourcing risks, improve irrigation methods, and encourage regenerative agriculture that makes sure long-term resilience and less reliance on limited freshwater supplies by keeping track of green water use.

Grey Water Footprint
The Grey Water Footprint is the amount of fresh water needed to dilute pollutants from industrial waste, agricultural runoff, or wastewater until they are safe to drink. A big grey water footprint means a higher risk of pollution. Companies can find hotspots, improve treatment systems, and follow the rules by measuring it. This helps ecosystems while also making the company's reputation and trust in the community better.

Standards and the Legal Situation
Across the world, governments and regulators are making it harder to get environmental disclosures. ISO 14046 is the global standard for measuring water footprints. CDP Water and India's BRSR are two frameworks that require businesses to report on their water risks. A robust water footprint study ensures that organizations stay ahead of compliance requirements, avoiding penalties and safeguarding their licenses to operate.
ISO 14046 is the comprehensive standard covering all four phases of an water footprint assessment.
Water Footprint Network (WFN) – Recognized methodology for calculating blue, green, and grey water impacts.
CDP Water Disclosure – A leading framework for investor-driven water risk disclosures.
BRSR (SEBI, India) – Mandates disclosure of water-related risks in ESG reporting.
GRI 303 – Global reporting framework for water and effluent management.
These standards ensure consistency, credibility, and global recognition of Water Footprint Calculation

Everything You Need to Know
From technology to timelines, find all the key answers in one simple place.
Solar energy is electricity generated from sunlight using photovoltaic (PV) panels. These panels absorb sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC), which is then transformed into usable alternating current (AC) by an inverter to power your home or business.
Yes. While the upfront cost may vary, solar systems drastically reduce monthly electricity bills and often pay for themselves within 5–7 years. Many countries also offer incentives, tax credits, or feed-in tariffs to further enhance savings.
Most solar panels are designed to last 25 to 30 years. Even after that, they continue to produce electricity at around 80% of their original efficiency, making them a long-term investment.
Not necessarily. Batteries are optional and allow you to store excess energy for later use or during power outages. Without batteries, your system can still function by exporting excess power to the grid.
